Voter Registration Countdown: Candidate Adelita Grijalva Talks to DGT This Monday

The voter registration deadline for the Congressional District 7 special election is rapidly approaching. Residents wishing to cast ballots in the July 15 special primary must register by 11:59 p.m. on June 16.
Early voting kicks off on June 18, along with the mailing of ballots for the CD7 election. In-person early voting locations include the Pima County Recorder’s Office at 240 N. Stone Ave. and its South Side branch at 6550 S. Country Club Rd. A new venue at Palo Verde High School will also open, providing access from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional sites will start operations on July 7.
Democratic candidate Adelita Grijalva is set to address the Democrats of Greater Tucson via Zoom on June 18. She aims to fill the seat once held by her father, Raúl Grijalva, who passed away on March 13 after a battle with lung cancer. Four other Democrats are vying for the nomination: Daniel Hernandez, Deja Foxx, Patrick Harris Sr., and Jose Malvido Jr. A debate among the candidates took place on June 10.
On the Republican side, Daniel Butierez, Jorge Rivas, and Jimmy Rodriguez are competing for the GOP nomination, having debated on June 9. Additionally, two write-in candidates, Gary Swing and Eduardo Quintana, are running for the Green Party nomination, while Richard Grayson is campaigning on the No Labels ticket and Andy Fernandez represents the Libertarian Party.
In other political events, the League of Women Voters will host candidate forums for Tucson City Council races. Jun. 21 features a discussion for the Ward 3 seat, where incumbent Kevin Dahl faces Sadie Shaw. Forums for Wards 5 and 6 will follow on June 26 and July 1, respectively. The primary for Tucson City Council is scheduled for Aug. 5, with general elections occurring on Nov. 4.
