VOTE: Friday Night Fever Week 1 Sweet Play of the Week

The 2024 high school football season in Arizona is underway, marking the return of Friday Night Fever for its 35th season on 12News. This year, the show has introduced an exciting new segment, replacing the previously known “Hot Shots” with “Sweet Plays.” Each week, three standout plays will be nominated, allowing fans to vote for the Sweet Play of the Week.

These weekly winners will compete for the title of Sweet Play of the Year, with the player associated with the winning play receiving a $5,000 scholarship, generously provided by Sweet James Injury Attorneys.

Week 1 has already featured some thrilling plays, with the following nominations:

  • Red Mountain QB Simon Lopez connects with WR Tyreke Cornette, who skillfully tiptoes along the sideline into the end zone for a touchdown.
  • Mountain Ridge RB Vincent Norfolk makes a remarkable 77-yard touchdown run after catching a pass.
  • Arcadia QB Braylen Rooney recovers a fumbled snap in the end zone and throws a deep pass to Ian Slater, who capitalizes with a touchdown.

Fans can view the nominated plays at the top of the article and are encouraged to cast their votes. Polls will remain open until next Friday at 10 a.m., with the winner announced during Week 2 of Friday Night Fever.

Arizona’s sports landscape is vibrant, featuring teams across major leagues, including the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, NBA’s Phoenix Suns, WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, and MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks. The city is also home to the USL’s Phoenix Rising FC and hosts significant sporting events like the Fiesta Bowl and WM Phoenix Open.
