The top three plays from Week 1 of Friday Night Fever have been nominated for the inaugural Sweet Play of the Week award, inviting fans to make their voices heard in this exciting competition.

PHOENIX — The 2024 high school football season in Arizona has officially commenced, marking the return of Friday Night Fever for its 35th season on 12News.

This year, the show introduces a fresh segment. Previously known as “Hot Shots,” the standout plays will now be recognized as “Sweet Plays” — a change that heightens the stakes.

Each week, three plays will vie for the Sweet Play of the Week, with fans casting their votes to determine the winner.

Weekly victors become candidates for the Sweet Play of the Year, and the player involved in the season’s final winning play will receive a $5,000 scholarship, thanks to Sweet James Injury Attorneys.

Week 1 Sweet Plays:

This week’s nominees feature impressive performances. Red Mountain quarterback Simon Lopez connected with wide receiver Tyreke Cornette, who skillfully danced along the sideline to score a touchdown. Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge running back Vincent Norfolk made headlines with a remarkable 77-yard touchdown reception. Arcadia quarterback Braylen Rooney recovered a fumbled snap, then launched a deep pass to Ian Slater, who finished the play with a touchdown.

Fans can watch the nominated plays at the top of the article, and votes can be cast below. The window for voting remains open until next Friday at 10 a.m., with the winner announced during Week 2 of Friday Night Fever.

Phoenix is a bustling hub for sports, home to four major league teams: the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, and MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Cardinals play at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, while the Suns and Mercury compete at the Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix. Additionally, the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League host games at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale. The city also supports a USL soccer team, the Phoenix Rising FC, which plays at its own stadium.

Phoenix is not just about professional leagues; it also hosts a plethora of significant sporting events year-round, including the Fiesta Bowl, WM Phoenix Open, and NASCAR races during Championship Weekend in November.
