Video shows coyotes following woman as she walks her dog in the West Valley


Arizona Game and Fish officials report an increase in coyote sightings across the Valley. Residents are urged to be vigilant, especially during summer when wildlife searches for food and water.

In a recent incident at Bullard Wash Trail, a woman filmed coyotes approaching her while she walked her dog. Despite the close encounter, both were unharmed, and she promptly alerted the authorities.

Another video from south Phoenix shows coyotes easily hopping over fences into backyards. Alex Flickinger of Arizona Game and Fish noted that reports are flooding in, with sightings varying from lone coyotes to packs approaching people too closely.

Coyotes tend to roam more during cooler hours of early morning or late evening. Flickinger advises against running or turning your back if you encounter one. Instead, standing your ground is crucial.

She recommends yelling and making oneself appear larger to discourage the animals. In dire situations, throwing items nearby can help intimidate them. “It’s about asserting your dominance,” Flickinger explained.
