Vice mayor to host MLK celebration

Maricopa City Councilman Henry Wade Jr. expressed gratitude to city leaders for their support during a recent celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event took place on Tuesday night and marked the second consecutive year that Maricopa has honored the legacy of the civil rights icon.

During the city council meeting, Wade hosted a modest celebration featuring proclamations, musical performances, a poetry reading, and the distribution of peach cobbler. This gathering provided an opportunity for the community to come together and reflect on the values that Dr. King championed.

Wade emphasized the significance of commemorating this day, stating, “It’s important to show the city is supportive of Dr. King and his vision.” He noted that despite progress, the dream for equal rights and voting rights remains unfulfilled. “There’s still work to be done,” he added.

The Maricopa City Council meeting commenced at 6 p.m. at city hall, located at 39700 W Civic Center Plaza.
