VFW Post 9401 in Havasu Unveils Stunning Mural to Honor Veterans

A significant milestone was reached this week with the grand opening of a mural at VFW Post 9401, marking the culmination of an 18-month project. The ceremony drew a crowd of local veterans, their families, and government officials.
Located on London Bridge Road, the mural spans 440 square feet and was crafted by Aniko Doman, a Las Vegas artist and daughter of a U.S. veteran. Funding came from a combination of VFW fundraising efforts and a generous $55,000 grant under the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act from Mohave County.
The mural features members of the U.S. armed services, including the Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard, each depicted in a salute to veterans both living and deceased. Notably, a “stairway to heaven” at the southern end of the mural illustrates a veteran on the cusp of entering the afterlife. According to VFW officials, this tribute is designed to last for up to 30 years.
VFW Commander Omer Ethier expressed pride in the achievement. He noted, “It started out as a chat among friends during RV trips, discussing potential murals. Now, Phase One is completed, and we are proud of it.” The community’s enthusiasm reflects its value.
Plans for the mural’s second phase are underway, scheduled to commence later this year. This phase will introduce a military pride banner and a planter box featuring metal poppies, symbolizing the famous 1915 poem “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae.
