Van Collides with Stoplight, Triggering Cop-Car Carnage in JWP Crash Response
State police are currently responding to a significant vehicle collision on the John Wayne strip at Edison Road. The incident, reported at approximately 3:36 p.m. today, has resulted in the closure of outer lanes on John Wayne Parkway, causing traffic delays in all directions.
A witness at the scene described traffic as being at a “dead stop,” indicating the severity of the situation. At 3:50 p.m., state troopers were on site, coordinating with the Maricopa Police Department and Maricopa Fire and Medical Department to manage the aftermath of the crash. A grey sedan and a maroon minivan were involved, with the latter reportedly crashing into a stoplight located at the busy intersection.
First responders evaluated at least one individual at the scene, and an ambulance departed shortly thereafter. Witness accounts noted a Maricopa police pickup truck attempting to push the disabled sedan out of the intersection, but those efforts appeared unsuccessful. The scene was marked by the sound of tire screeches and visible burnouts.
By 4 p.m., police were actively clearing debris from the intersection, though details regarding injuries remain unclear. This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
