Chance for more storms in the Valley Thursday


Daily storm chances will continue through Friday and wane for the weekend.

PHOENIX — Significant storm damage greeted Valley residents this morning after monsoon activity swept through the region. Wind gusts up to 70 mph were reported in Avondale near Phoenix Raceway, according to the National Weather Service. Other areas in Phoenix experienced gusts nearing 50 mph. Strong microbursts from late Wednesday storms were confirmed by the National Weather Service.

Another round of severe weather is expected to hit the Valley on Thursday afternoon and evening, with peak storm chances slated for the evening. The Service Storm Prediction Center has indicated a marginal risk of severe weather for parts of the greater Phoenix area on Thursday. The primary threats include blowing dust, strong winds, and locally heavy rain.

Thursday’s daytime highs will soar above average, reaching around 113 degrees in Phoenix. Isolated storm chances will persist through Friday, as the week concludes with above-average temperatures.

The lower desert regions will begin to dry out over the weekend, with highs stabilizing around 110 degrees. Storm chances are forecasted to reappear on Tuesday.
