Valley Animal Rescue Urges Community to Rally for Abandoned Chowder the Dog’s Recovery

PHOENIX — Chowder, a severely neglected dog, was rescued from dire circumstances by Better Chance Rescue. The organization’s founder, Katelyn Beazley, described Chowder as almost “dead on arrival,” having arrived unconscious and malnourished.
According to Beazley, Chowder was surrendered by his previous owners, who falsely claimed they found him as a stray. The rescue team discovered that he was microchipped, revealing his true background. Chowder’s physical condition reflects a long history of abuse and neglect, with Beazley noting a severe lack of muscle mass. “You can see every bone on his body,” she said.
To raise awareness for Chowder’s situation, Better Chance Rescue has been updating their Facebook page about his recovery and the significant financial support needed for his medical care. Chowder’s treatment costs approximately $2,000 per day at the Veterinary Emergency Group, where he has been hospitalized for ongoing care.
In an uplifting turn, Chowder has begun drinking water and eating, which Beazley calls “HUGE” progress. Despite the challenges ahead, her optimism remains high. “There are worse things; he could’ve been taken to the desert,” she remarked, highlighting the support Chowder has from the community. The latest update reveals that Chowder has developed free fluid in his abdomen, likely due to malnutrition. A plasma transfusion has recently been approved for the young dog.
Beazley urges supporters to donate directly through a QR code on the Better Chance Rescue page, cautioning against fraudulent donation attempts reported on platforms like Venmo and Zelle. Chowder’s journey has not only garnered local attention but also a growing community of supporters rallying behind him as he strives for recovery.
