Olympics: US women's soccer continues quest for gold in quarterfinals match against Japan

PARIS, France — The United States women’s soccer team has advanced to the semifinals at the Olympics following a 1-0 victory over Japan, thanks to a crucial goal by Trinity Rodman in extra time.

Rodman’s decisive goal came in the first extra period, slotting the ball into the top of the far post. Her efforts were celebrated enthusiastically by her teammates on the field.

Despite being undefeated and boasting a strong scoring record throughout the group stage, the Americans faced strong resistance from Japan, who played solid defense throughout the match.

The victory secures a semifinal berth for the U.S. team, who will now face the winner of the upcoming Germany vs. Canada match in Marseille. Notably, the U.S. had previously triumphed over Germany 4-1 during the group stage under the direction of new coach Emma Hayes.

This goal marks Rodman’s third of the tournament, adding to her burgeoning reputation on the international stage. She came close to scoring another in the second extra period as well.
