US Olympic Star Fred Kerley Arrested After Clash with Police in South Florida

U.S. Olympic runner Fred Kerley has been arrested in Miami Beach following an altercation with police.
Authorities report that the incident escalated when Kerley confronted officers late Thursday while they were managing an unrelated police activity. Body camera footage shows him arguing with multiple officers before a physical struggle ensued.
During the confrontation, Kerley was taken to the ground, where an officer struck him several times before deploying a Taser. This escalation reportedly occurred after Kerley attempted to reach his vehicle, despite being advised by officers to stay clear of the area.
The arrest report indicates that Kerley engaged in a shoving match with police after they asked him multiple times to move away. Four officers ultimately attempted to subdue him as he resisted arrest.
After being Tasered, Kerley was transported to a local hospital for evaluation before being taken to the Miami-Dade County jail. He now faces charges of battery, resisting an officer, and disorderly conduct.
At present, online court records do not show an attorney representing Kerley. USA Track & Field has also refrained from commenting on the situation.
In his athletic career, Kerley has made significant achievements, including winning a silver medal in the 100-meter event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a bronze at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. He has also collected six medals at the World Athletics Championships.
