The U.S. team triumphed over Serbia 95-91, earning a spot in the final game for Olympic gold in Paris. Overcoming a 17-point deficit, and an 11-point halftime shortfall—the largest turnaround for a U.S. team since NBA players began participating in 1992.
With 7:19 left in the game, Serbia held an 11-point lead. From that point, the U.S. seized control.
On Saturday night, the U.S. will compete against host nation France for the gold medal. Serbia is set to play Germany for the bronze earlier the same day.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the U.S. shifted the momentum dramatically. Kevin Durant’s 3-pointer, coupled with a foul drawn by Anthony Davis, resulted in a swift score. The team gained another possession, and Devin Booker sank another 3-pointer.
Serbia’s lead of 78-67 was quickly reduced to 78-73. The U.S. comeback was unstoppable from that point, capped by Curry’s decisive 3-pointer. Curry further secured the lead with two free throws in the final seconds, cementing the U.S. victory.
