US 89 restricted to 1 lane in each direction north of Flagstaff for construction project

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — On April 1, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will initiate a significant project to repair and enhance drainage channels along US 89, approximately 12 miles north of Flagstaff. This essential work will cause traffic restrictions, reducing the roadway to one lane in each direction.

Crews will be working on a nine-mile stretch of the highway between mileposts 423 and 432. ADOT has indicated that construction will largely occur around the clock during much of the project. The repairs are crucial, as they address drainage channels impacted by heavy monsoon runoff and debris from wildfire burn scars experienced in the summer of 2022.

While the project is set to begin next week, ADOT has not specified an exact completion date but projects it to finish “late this year.” Motorists are advised to remain cautious and aware of ongoing construction activities.
