Urgent Weekend Travel Alert: Freeway Conditions for June 20-23

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced limited lane restrictions for freeway improvement projects in the Phoenix area this weekend, June 20-23. Travelers are advised to plan ahead for potential delays and consider detour routes.
This weekend, eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) ramps to both northbound and southbound Interstate 17 in north Phoenix will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 10 p.m. Saturday, June 21. This closure is part of the ongoing widening project. Motorists should factor in extra travel time and look for alternative routes.
For those needing access to I-17 from eastbound Loop 101, detours are available. Drivers may exit at 35th Avenue and travel north to Deer Valley Road, or head south to Union Hills Drive or Bell Road.
Additionally, Loop 101 will be narrowed to two lanes in both directions between 71st Avenue and Union Hills Drive from 11 p.m. Friday until 11 p.m. Saturday. Extra caution is urged as drivers navigate through these construction zones.
Southbound I-17 will also experience disruptions. The on-ramp at 19th Avenue near the Durango Curve will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday for barrier wall repairs. The right lane on southbound I-17 near 19th Avenue will also be closed during this period. Motorists can use the southbound frontage road to reach Seventh Avenue for entering I-17.
Moreover, Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be closed in both directions at Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) from 9 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday for bridge widening work. Alternate routes include the north- or southbound Loop 101 frontage roads, which provide access to Bell Road or Raintree Drive.
