UPDATE: Major Collision Disrupts Traffic at Smith-Enke Intersection
Maricopa police responded to a two-car crash on Smith-Enke Road on September 17. The accident triggered significant traffic delays for local drivers.
Authorities were alerted to the incident at 5:24 p.m. at the intersection of Smith-Enke Road and Desert Greens Drive. Maricopa police and fire units arrived quickly on the scene.
Witnesses reported a white Honda Civic disabled in the westbound lanes and a white Toyota Corolla partially off the roadway. The collision prompted police to block traffic in both directions. Westbound lanes between North Porter Road and North Santa Rosa Drive were closed, while tow trucks worked to clear the vehicles, causing traffic to back up near the Santa Rosa Wash. To navigate the congestion, drivers were diverted through the parking lot of the Pinal County Public Health Clinic.
According to MPD spokesperson Monica Williams, four individuals were involved in the crash, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. InMaricopa has reached out to the police department to gather more details, including specific information regarding the crash’s cause.
