Upcoming Remembrance Day Event Set to Commemorate Heroes
The Phoenix Holocaust Association (PHA) has announced a special evening featuring bestselling author Georgia Hunter and acclaimed actress Busy Philipps. This collaboration, in partnership with the Center for Jewish Philanthropy, promises a captivating experience for attendees.
At just 15, Hunter learned about her family’s harrowing past as Holocaust survivors. Driven by a desire to document their experiences, she embarked on a comprehensive research project. The culmination of her efforts is the critically acclaimed book, “We Were the Lucky Ones.” Its success is marked by translations in over 20 languages and a forthcoming adaptation into an eight-part series by Hulu.
The narrative centers around a Jewish family torn apart at the dawn of World War II, as the Nazi and Soviet forces invaded Poland. Hunter’s storytelling is rooted in her grandfather’s true survival story, capturing the resilience and tenacity of those who endured unimaginable hardships.
Philipps, a Chaparral High School alumna, will engage Hunter in an insightful interview. Known for her performances in various hit television series, she brings a unique perspective to the discussion.
This event is scheduled for January 23, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Chaparral High School’s auditorium, located at 6935 E. Gold Dust Ave., Scottsdale. Tickets are priced at $18 for PHA members and $36 for general admission. A VIP experience, including preferred seating and a reception with Hunter and Philipps, is available for $72. Students with valid IDs and Holocaust survivors will have complimentary access.
