Enjoy Sedona Parks and Recreation’s summer films

The Sedona Parks and Recreation Department is set to revive its popular Summer Cinema Series this June, featuring free outdoor movie screenings each Friday at 8 p.m. The events will take place at various parks around the city.

“This is a beautiful time of year to enjoy movies under the stars,” said Jason Vargo, the Special Events Coordinator. “We encourage residents to come out with friends and neighbors.”

Attendees are invited to bring their own refreshments, chairs, or blankets. While alcohol is prohibited, city staff will provide complimentary popcorn at each screening.

The series aims to attract a larger audience by rotating locations, showcasing Sedona’s diverse park environments. “There are numerous parks available for gatherings, and I hope to see increased participation this year,” Vargo added.

Upcoming films include:

  • June 6: “Luca” at Sedona Community Pool, featuring a young boy’s coming-of-age adventures in an Italian seaside town. Free admission to the pool starts at 7 p.m., limited to the first 300 attendees.
  • June 13: “The Sandlot” at Posse Grounds Softball Field, a nostalgic comedy about boys in the 1960s reclaiming a Babe Ruth ball. Free hot dogs will be available.
  • June 20: “The Marx Brothers Go West” at Ranger Station Park, a classic tale of New Yorkers caught in a comical feud out West.
  • June 27: “Wicked” at Posse Grounds Pavilion, which delves into the untold story of the witches from Oz. Pre-show karaoke starts at 5:30 p.m.

Last year’s attendance was solid, with approximately 100 participants per screening and some films, like “Mamma Mia!”, drawing up to 200 viewers.

In case of inclement weather, screenings will move indoors to the Hub at 525 B Posse Ground Road. For additional details, visit sedonaaz.gov.
