Unveiling New Talent: Meet Stephanie Simacek

Legislative District 2 is poised for a change as Stephanie Simacek assumes the House seat formerly held by Democratic Rep. Judy Schweibert starting in January. Simacek, a resident of Arizona since 2014, earned her graduate degree from Grand Canyon University and has experience as both a first-grade teacher and a substitute teacher.
In addition to her teaching background, Simacek has been an active member of the Deer Valley Unified School District Governing Board, having won election in 2022. She is the mother of two daughters who are currently enrolled in the Deer Valley district. Her legislative priorities, as noted on her campaign website, include education, housing, water conservation, environmental issues, and reproductive freedom. Simacek has voiced strong opposition to the state’s Empowerment Scholarship Accounts program, underscoring her commitment to public education.
Simacek’s path to the Legislature featured notable challenges. During her campaign, her opponent, Ari Bradshaw, faced accusations of harassment after he allegedly attempted to contact her inappropriately following her withdrawal from a debate. Ultimately, Simacek won the race, successfully maintaining the Democratic seat in a competitive district. As she prepares to take office alongside Republican incumbents Rep. Justin Wilmeth and Sen. Shawnna Bolick, all eyes will be on how her education framework and priorities shape future legislative discussions.
Simacek did not respond to requests for an interview regarding her upcoming tenure and legislative intentions.
