Unveiling Johnny Weir: The Star Hosting the Closing Ceremony

In addition to their figure skating analysis, Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski are also known for bringing the fashion.
PARIS, France — The Closing Ceremony broadcast in the United States featured five different co-hosts to take on the responsibility of bidding farewell to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
NBC’s Mike Tirico was back as a host alongside “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon. They were joined by Terry Gannon and former Olympic figure skaters Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir. The trio previously served as Closing Ceremony hosts for the last three Olympics.
Johnny Weir, a two-time Olympian and a three-time U.S. men’s figure skating champion, also secured the 2008 world bronze medal. Meanwhile, Tara Lipinski made history by winning the women’s figure skating gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics at the age of 15 years and 255 days. She remains the youngest individual event winner in Winter Olympics history, though the youngest gold medalist title belongs to Kim Yun-Mi from South Korea.
Lipinski and Weir have been figure skating commentators since the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Alongside Gannon, they quickly ascended to become NBC’s primary team for figure skating analysis. Known for their candid commentary and striking fashion choices, including bedazzled microphones, they share glimpses of their endeavors on a joint Instagram account.
Tara Lipinski is married to sports producer Todd Kapostasy. The couple wed in 2017 and have since co-executively produced the documentary “Meddling,” which delves into the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics pairs figure skating scandal. In a significant personal milestone, in October 2023, Lipinski and Kapostasy announced the birth of their daughter via surrogate after years of infertility.
