Who are the Anthem jewelry store robbery suspects?

Helen Simmons and Matthew Jones matched the description of the two people seen in security camera video.

PHOENIX — Helen Simmons, 18, and 22-year-old Matthew Jones were apprehended in California over the weekend while driving a U-Haul.

The two are suspects in the July 12 armed robbery at Andrew Z, a jewelry store in Anthem, which left an individual in critical condition.

The rental truck stood out to Huntington Beach Police due to “hot” plates, indicating two felony warrants for the vehicle.

Simmons and Jones led authorities on a highway chase that concluded with police using a pit maneuver and spike strips. Officers and K9 units then surrounded the vehicle, resulting in the couple’s peaceful surrender.

Jones and Simmons were confirmed to match the suspects seen in security footage of the Anthem jewelry store robbery. A store employee was shot during the incident and remains hospitalized.

After the chase, police discovered multiple bags in the U-Haul and a motorcycle possibly linked to the Anthem robbery.

It was also revealed that Jones had served 18 months in State Prison for an unlawful imprisonment charge, having been released on June 17, less than a month before the Anthem crime.

The duo faces several felony charges and awaits extradition back to Maricopa County.
