Free microchipping available from MCACC

Microchipping can help dogs be returned to their owners, and keep them out of already overcrowded shelters, should they get lost or be separated.

As the holiday season approaches, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) is encouraging pet owners to microchip their dogs. This proactive step can provide peace of mind for owners and potentially reduce the number of lost pets entering shelters.

Nationally, over five million animals enter shelters each year, with 40 to 60 percent being lost pets. Unfortunately, one in three pets will go missing at some point. Microchipping significantly boosts the likelihood that lost dogs can be reunited with their owners, addressing a major issue for local shelters grappling with overcrowding.

“After seeing the success of our Care on the Go events, we recognized the need for microchipping services in the community,” stated Kim Powell, communications supervisor at MCACC. “Our mission is to ensure all dogs in Maricopa County are microchipped for easier reunification with their owners.”

Those interested in having their dogs microchipped can register for an appointment. Availability is updated every two weeks. For more information, visit the MCACC website.
