Two of Team USA's 'Golden Girls' headed back to college

What’s next for Team USA’s champion women’s gymnastics team? For at least two members, the answer is a return to academia.

PARIS, France — Olympic gold-medalists Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey are heading back to college.

Chiles and Carey, part of the “Golden Girls” squad led by Simone Biles that struck gold in Paris last week, have each revealed their plans to resume their studies. Chiles will rejoin UCLA, while Carey is set to return to Oregon State University.

Carey, who added a bronze on vault to her career Olympic medal haul, announced her return after arriving in Corvallis, Oregon, on Wednesday.

Chiles, fresh off earning bronze in the floor exercise, stated she is eager to resume her academic journey at UCLA.

Carey will have one year of collegiate eligibility left, while Chiles has two. Chiles redshirted last season to focus on Olympic preparation.

Both gymnasts have emphasized the importance of the college environment in their development. Carey highlighted her comfort competing for the Beavers as a key factor for staying in school while also training for the Olympics.

Chiles shared earlier this year that leaving school was a tough but necessary decision for her training, although she remained closely connected to her UCLA program during her break.
