Two Exciting Opportunities to Enhance Dementia Education

Hospice of the Valley’s Dementia Care and Education Campus is offering two educational events aimed at helping residents understand the impacts of cognitive impairment on their loved ones or those they care for.
The upcoming Dementia Experience and Education event features an innovative, interactive presentation. Participants will engage in an 8-minute simulation that challenges them to complete everyday tasks while experiencing the effects of cognitive impairment. Following this immersive activity, a review of the most common types of dementia will take place, emphasizing how progressive brain changes influence thinking, functioning, and behaviors.
In addition, attendees will learn various techniques, including improvisation and sensory experiences, designed to foster meaningful connections with individuals living with dementia. The ultimate goal of these approaches is to enhance the quality of life for those affected by this condition.
Two sessions are scheduled: Saturday, Sept. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 9, both from noon to 3 p.m. Attendance is free, but participants must register in advance.
The Dementia Care and Education Campus is located at 3811 N. 44th St. in Phoenix. Individuals can register or inquire further by emailing events@dementiacampus.org or by calling 602-767-8300. Walk-ins are welcome.
