Turney Project Presses On: October Milestone Achieved

Turney project continued to October

During the August 6 meeting, the Camelback East Village Planning Committee (VPC) voted against recommending approval for case number Z-74-24. The proposal aimed to rezone 1.82 acres located at the northeast corner of 21st Street and Turney Avenue from R-3 to R-5 to facilitate the construction of a multifamily residential development. If approved, the project would feature a four-story building, standing 48 feet tall, containing 75 market-rate apartments—comprising 10 studios, 23 one-bedroom units, and 42 two-bedroom apartments.

The decision drew praise from local residents, who supported the VPC’s 7-9 vote against the recommendation.

Originally set for review by the Phoenix Planning Commission on September 5, the case was postponed after 4401 Turney Villas, LLC, the owner, requested additional time for community outreach. The Planning Commission granted this request, rescheduling the hearing for October 10.

For detailed information regarding this case and others, reports can be accessed through the Phoenix Planning and Development Department’s website. Details about future public meetings are also available on the city clerk’s page.
