How to watch the FireAid benefit concert for LA wildfire relief

LOS ANGELES — In a powerful display of solidarity, Green Day launched the FireAid benefit concert Thursday night, aiming to raise significant funds for wildfire recovery in the Los Angeles area. The concert, which spanned two venues, features a lineup of some of the biggest names in music, many of whom have been personally impacted by recent fires.

The evening commenced with Green Day performing “Last Night on Earth,” only to be joined by Billie Eilish for a surprise duet. The poignant lyrics resonated with the audience: “If I lose everything in the fire / I’m sending all my love to you.” This set the emotional tone for the night.

After their set, Green Day’s frontman Billy Joe Armstrong spoke with humor, joking about their fundraising goal. “Our aim is simple tonight, to outspend the Dodgers on free agents,” he quipped, revealing that U2 had made a notable donation of $1 million to the cause.

Comedian Billy Crystal also shared his personal loss as he addressed the audience, explaining that he was wearing the same clothes he had on during his evacuation—having lost his home in the Pacific Palisades after 46 years.

The concert featured unexpected performances, including Dr. Dre, who energized the crowd with “Still D.R.E.” and the iconic “California Love,” accompanied by Anderson .Paak and Sheila E. Joni Mitchell moved attendees with her rendition of “Both Sides Now,” followed by Alanis Morissette in a custom “I heart LA” shirt, performing her hit “Ironic.”

As the concert unfolded, the audience was reminded of the fires’ devastation through visuals of firefighters and affected communities. In between musical acts, testimonials from survivors highlighted their struggles, creating an impactful narrative throughout the evening.

Attendees reflected on the concert’s significance. Scott Jones, a local resident, expressed hope that firefighters in attendance could take a moment to decompress. His daughter, alongside him, wore a shirt honoring first responders, underscoring the community’s appreciation for those who served during the crisis.

For those at home or unable to attend, the FireAid concert is being streamed live across several platforms, including Apple Music and Netflix/Tudum. Select AMC Theatres will also screen the event, expanding its reach to a wider audience.

The star-studded lineup at the Intuit Dome includes Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga, alongside performances at the Kia Forum from artists like Joni Mitchell and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Notably absent is Dave Matthews, who recently canceled his performance due to a family health emergency.

This event is more than just a concert; it serves as a vital platform for speakers, including those directly impacted by the fires, first responders, and community advocates, shedding light on the ongoing recovery needs.

Donations are encouraged through FireAidLA.org for those unable to participate in person or online. All proceeds from the event will directly support those affected by the wildfires, managed under the auspices of a 501(c)(3) organization in collaboration with the Annenberg Foundation.
