Tucson's renowned Arizona Inn up for sale

Tucson’s iconic Arizona Inn is now officially on the market, marking a significant transition for the historic establishment. Situated in a serene neighborhood adjacent to the University of Arizona, the inn features its distinctive bright pink exterior, which has greeted guests since its opening in December 1930.

The Arizona Inn has remained under the stewardship of Isabella Greenway’s family, Arizona’s first congresswoman, for almost a century. Generations of her family have maintained the inn, passing it down through five generations, beginning with Greenway’s son.

Currently owned by Arizona Inn Company, LLP and managed by general partner Frances Doar and president Will Conroy, the hotel spans nearly 14 acres in Tucson’s Blenman-Elm neighborhood, boasting 93 rooms.

JLL’s Hotels & Hospitality Group announced on Tuesday that they would manage the sale of this celebrated resort located at 2200 E. Elm Street. While the property offers a unique blend of luxury and charm, the asking price remains undisclosed. The land and property hold an assessed value exceeding $5.6 million.

The hotel is equipped with 5,000 square feet of versatile event space, including the Audubon Bar & Patio and the main dining room. Additionally, guests can enjoy amenities like a heated outdoor pool, clay tennis courts, croquet lawns, saunas, and complimentary bicycles.

Isabella Greenway initially opened “The Arizona Hut,” a furniture store aimed at employing disabled World War I veterans. After the Great Depression hit, she constructed the Arizona Inn to boost demand for the furniture, ultimately preserving the veterans’ livelihoods. The original furniture from The Arizona Hut remains scattered throughout the inn, cared for by an on-site carpentry shop.

The Arizona Inn was designated a historic site on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. It has been operational continuously since 1971, with the exception of a brief closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, as reported by the Arizona Daily Star in April 2020.

Ownership is hopeful for a buyer who recognizes and values the inn’s rich heritage while also willing to explore its future possibilities. “We’re seeking a buyer who acknowledges the historical significance of the Arizona Inn and is committed to preserving its legacy,” said Matt Riley, senior director of JLL’s Hotels & Hospitality Investment sales team. He emphasized the property’s potential for continued success given its prime location and demand in the local lodging market.
