Tucson HIV/AIDS groups host benefit concert, honor TIHAN founder

The Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network (TIHAN) and the Center for Health and Hope are set to host a concert this Sunday, March 9, from 5-8 p.m. at the Three Canyon beer garden. This event aims to support both local and international programs focused on HIV care and advocacy.

Local band ONESALL will take the stage, with the concert also honoring Scott Blades, a founding member of TIHAN. “It’s an opportunity for both organizations to come together and raise funds,” said Arlan Colton, TIHAN’s board treasurer. “We’re dedicating the concert to Joe Heller, whose recent passing is a loss for our community. He championed HIV/AIDS programs for many years.”

Blades has committed 30 years to TIHAN, advocating for those affected by HIV and educating communities. Beyond advocacy, the organization also provides essential resources, such as household products. The Center for Health and Hope offers similar programs in countries like India and Kenya, working to destigmatize HIV/AIDS in various cultures.

Colton highlighted the origins of TIHAN, established in 1994 largely by faith communities responding to the stigma surrounding HIV within their congregations. “The stigma still exists, and the organization helps those who need guidance and resources,” he explained. “It feels rewarding to benefit people, even on a small scale.”

At the concert, proceeds will be shared equally between TIHAN and the Center for Health and Hope. Blades is set to receive the center’s 2025 Leadership Award, recognizing his commitment to fostering understanding within the community. “It’s going to be a good time with community spirit, music, and food,” Blades stated.

The concert will take place at 4999 N. Sabino Canyon Rd. Attendees are encouraged to arrive between 4-4:30 p.m. for parking assistance. The event welcomes individuals of all ages.
