Drop off old papers, paint & more at Tucson collection event Saturday

Residents of Tucson have an opportunity to dispose of old paint, electronics, and sensitive documents at the city’s monthly household hazardous waste collection event.

The Environmental and General Services Department will conduct this collection on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to noon at Pima College West, located at 2202 W. Anklam Rd. Items such as paint, oil, electronic waste, recyclables, glass bottles and jars, and up to three boxes of documents for shredding will be accepted.

Tucson residents can dispose of these items for free, while those from nearby suburbs or unincorporated Pima County will be charged a $10 fee.

Note that the city will not accept unknown chemicals, business or commercial waste, commercial gas cylinders, CRT monitors, explosives or ammunition, infectious or radioactive waste, dried paint, or medical waste.

Additionally, city residents can drop off household hazardous waste at the Los Reales Sustainability Campus at 5300 E. Los Reales Rd. This facility is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, except on the Saturdays when monthly collection events are scheduled.

The next monthly collection event is slated for Saturday, Sept. 14, at the IBEW union hall, located at 750 S. Tucson Blvd.
