Tucson City Court needs applicants for magistrate position

The Tucson City Court is seeking applicants for a magistrate position with a four-year term and an annual salary of $155,077.

City magistrates, also known as municipal court judges, adjudicate petty crimes and misdemeanors, conduct pre-trial hearings, and possess the authority to issue warrants for criminal cases.

According to a news release from the City Clerk’s Office, candidates must demonstrate good moral character, have been Arizona residents for at least one year prior to their recommendation, and hold a valid law practice admission in Arizona for five years preceding their recommendation.

The selection process involves a review by the Magistrates Merit Selection Commission, which will propose candidates to the mayor and City Council.

Applicants are advised to familiarize themselves with the Supreme Court of Arizona Administrative Orders. The application process requires submitting a full set of fingerprints.

A “Questionnaire for Candidates for Judicial Office” will be accessible online or via email starting Saturday, March 15. Interested individuals can request the form by emailing clerk-ea@tucsonaz.gov.

Completed questionnaires must be submitted in person at the City Clerk’s Office located at 255 W. Alameda St., ninth floor, or mailed to the City Magistrate Merit Selection Commission at P.O. Box 27210, Tucson, Arizona, 85726-7210.

The application deadline is set for Monday, April 12, at 5 p.m.
