Trump cuts funds to NPR and PBS, citing 'woke propaganda'

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday aimed at reducing public funding for PBS and NPR, citing alleged biases in their reporting. This directive calls for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and related federal agencies to halt federal financial support for these broadcasters.

The White House claimed that these organizations receive taxpayer dollars to promote what it termed “radical, woke propaganda” under the guise of news reporting. Approximately half a billion dollars in public funds are allocated to these broadcasters annually.

In light of these developments, both PBS and NPR have been bracing for potential funding cuts, a concern that has lingered since Trump’s election. Republicans have historically expressed discontent with the programming and political viewpoints of these public broadcasters.

This move reflects ongoing tensions between the administration and public media, which are seen by some political factions as misaligned with conservative values.
