Trump Sets Plans to Honor Jimmy Carter at His Funeral

Funeral services for former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 100, are set to take place in Georgia and Washington from January 4 through January 9.
President-elect Donald Trump confirmed his attendance at the funeral while at a New Year’s Eve party at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. When asked about whether he had contacted Carter’s family, Trump opted not to share details.
Despite having been a vocal critic of Carter during his campaign, particularly regarding 1970s inflation rates as a comparison to President Joe Biden, Trump expressed respect for the former president following his death. He stated on social media that the nation “owed him a debt of gratitude,” acknowledging Carter’s dedication to the country.
Trump remarked, “While I strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our Country, and all it stands for,” emphasizing Carter’s contributions to improving America.
In a tuxedo, Trump handled media inquiries on various topics, including a potential ceasefire amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza, stating only, “We’re going to see what happens.” He also highlighted concerns regarding hostages taken by Hamas over a year ago, urging their release.
Looking towards the future, Trump expressed optimism about 2025, asserting it would be a “great year” for the nation. He observed, “There’s a whole light over the whole world, not just our country. There are a lot of happy people,” reflecting on recent positive sentiments.
When asked about his new year’s resolutions, Trump’s focus remained on collective well-being, wishing for happiness and health for all. Later, he addressed the crowd at Mar-a-Lago, affirming his commitment to serving as president effectively.
In contrast, President Biden celebrated New Year’s Eve attending the wedding of his niece in Delaware, briefly cutting short a holiday trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands to partake in the event.
