Leah Campos, an Arizona native, has been nominated by President-elect Donald J. Trump to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic. This announcement came earlier this month via Trump’s Truth Social platform.

In his statement, Trump praised Campos for her extensive background, stating, “Leah served our Country as a CIA Case Officer before becoming Senior Advisor for the Western Hemisphere on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Leah is a mother to four beautiful children and comes from a family of Patriots.” He also noted her connection to prominent conservative figures, including her sister, Fox News personality Rachel Campos-Duffy, and her brother-in-law, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.

Trump expressed confidence in Campos’ abilities, saying, “Leah will take her love of Country and commitment to our National Security and Prosperity to her post as U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic. Congratulations, Leah!”

The nomination has been warmly received by colleagues and supporters. U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani congratulated her, saying, “Very proud of all that you’ve done and excited for what you will continue to do.”

Former State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert also commended the choice, highlighting Campos’ deep knowledge of the region. She tweeted, “Trump made a phenomenal choice picking Leah Campos to be his ambassador… America will be safer!”

Joseph M. Humire, Executive Director for the Center for a Secure Free Society, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Leah Campos has been quietly helping ensure that US-Latin America relations stay strong for more than a decade. The Trump administration and the Dominican Republic are lucky to have her.”

Previously, in 2012, Campos ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona’s newly created Ninth Congressional District, showcasing her longstanding engagement in public service.
