A fire erupted in a trash truck belonging to AC Sanitation early this morning near the Sorrento neighborhood, prompting the driver to take swift action to minimize damage.

Emergency services received the report at 9:22 a.m. The truck, originating from Arizona City, had its load set ablaze while turning onto Mirage Road, right across from the Church of Latter-Day Saints. To contain the fire, the driver immediately disposed of the burning refuse in an empty dirt lot, ensuring safety for nearby vehicles and pedestrians.

The intense flames caused significant scarring to the truck’s exterior. Firefighters from Maricopa Fire Engine 572 were dispatched and quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained in a heap beside the vehicle.

Once the flames were under control, the driver was able to relocate the truck further from the remnants of the smoldering trash. As authorities investigate the cause of the fire, experts emphasize the importance of proper waste disposal. Certain household items, such as lithium-ion batteries, gasoline, and hot coals, are frequently linked to such incidents.

AC Sanitation’s local office was unavailable for comment on the situation.
