Trial begins for IRS agent charged in death of fellow agent at Phoenix shooting range

PHOENIX — Trial proceedings have commenced for Larry E. Brown, a Peoria resident indicted for involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of IRS Special Agent Patrick Bauer. The incident occurred during a training exercise at a shooting range in August 2023, claiming the life of the long-time Arizona resident and father of four.

During the fatal training session, Brown and Bauer reportedly occupied a small room when a firearm in Brown’s possession discharged. Eyewitness accounts suggest that Brown fled the scene exclaiming, “I shot Pat!” following the incident.

Court documents reveal that a plea offer had been extended to Brown but was subsequently rejected. As the case unfolds, Brown’s trial is being conducted at the federal courthouse in downtown Phoenix.
