Travel Alert: Phoenix Freeway Closures Ahead – Nov. 15-18
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) announced significant freeway improvement projects that will lead to closures and lane restrictions in Phoenix this weekend, from November 15-18. Drivers are advised to plan for extra travel time and explore alternate routes due to the ongoing construction activities.
On the eastbound side of I-10, the road will be reduced to two lanes as the right lanes close between the I-17 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and US 60 (Superstition Freeway). This reduction will take place from 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday (November 18). Additionally, several on- and off-ramps will be closed, including all east- and westbound I-10 ramps to eastbound US 60, the southbound I-17 ramp to eastbound I-10, and the eastbound US 60 on-ramp at Priest Drive, with closures starting at 8 p.m. Friday.
Drivers are encouraged to utilize eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) beginning at the SR 51 “Mini-Stack” interchange to transition to southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) in Tempe, and then to westbound US 60 or westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) as detours.
In addition, there will be closures on eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) between McQueen and Cooper roads from 11:59 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday (November 16) for sign structure removal. Westbound Loop 202 will also face closure between Cooper and McQueen roads during the same time frame on Saturday night into Sunday noon (November 17). Furthermore, SR 87 will have restrictions on Sunday (November 17) between McDowell Road and Shea Boulevard in Fountain Hills due to a special event.
