Transform Your Earth Day: Recycle Valuable Metals for Charity!

A special recycling drive aimed at supporting charitable causes will take place on Earth Day, April 22. The Missions team at Desert Mission United Methodist Church is organizing this event to collect valuable metal items for recycling. Community members are encouraged to drop off aluminum, copper, brass, steel, and even irreparably damaged gold and silver jewelry. The collection will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the church’s circular driveway, located at 7373 E. Dixileta Drive in north Scottsdale. Volunteers will assist donors during the drop-off hours, ensuring a smooth process.
Proceeds from this initiative will be directed to fund outreach programs that support military troops, local food banks, homeless shelters, and various nonprofit organizations. Additionally, the drive promotes environmental sustainability by keeping reusable materials out of landfills.
Items accepted for recycling include:
- Aluminum: cans, lawn chairs, flag poles, mop handles, ladders
- Copper: plumbing parts, wiring, damaged silverplate (which consists of underlying copper)
- Brass: keys, tokens, candlesticks, vases, lamps, bowls, ashtrays
- Steel: oven racks, shovels, rakes, tools, golf clubs, bicycles
- Gold & silver: irreparably damaged jewelry and solo earrings
The church encourages community members to share news of this event with friends, family, and neighbors. Residents can contribute by posting information in HOA newsletters or on local platforms such as the Nextdoor app.
