Trans Day of Visibility Sparks Support for Local LGBTQ+ Events Through Fluxx Nonprofit

Members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community in Tucson are gearing up for “Stand in the Light,” a celebration of Transgender Day of Visibility on March 30. Hosted at Sky Bar on 4th Avenue, this event is presented by Jessica Michaels Production and Fluxx Productions.
Transgender Day of Visibility has been observed annually on March 31 since 2009 and gained formal recognition in 2021 when President Joe Biden issued a proclamation. The event aims to raise awareness about transgender representation and the challenges faced by the community.
Local performers, entertainers, and speakers are set to participate, alongside various organizations and vendors showcasing their initiatives. Dante Celeiro, executive director and co-founder of Fluxx Productions, emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among smaller organizations to secure funding and ensure their survival. “If we don’t start working together, small organizations like us can cease to exist,” Celeiro stated.
He reflected on the longstanding history of queer identities, mentioning that communities have existed for centuries and highlighting the importance of supporting diversity. “It’s just sad. It’s the year 2025,” Celeiro remarked, pointing to ongoing discrimination against non-conforming identities.
In addition to events like “Stand in the Light,” Fluxx Productions actively solicits donations via their website to enhance their community advocacy, art initiatives, and resource distribution. During the pandemic in 2020, the organization redirected planned funds to provide mental health services and food to those in need.
“We have never received federal funding,” Celeiro noted, expressing concern about increasing competition for limited resources among nonprofits. He underscored the importance of maintaining operational continuity amid tightening funding pools.
The “Stand in the Light” event welcomes all ages; however, minors must be accompanied by an adult. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the show commencing at 7 p.m. Admission is free, promoting accessibility for all attendees.
