Teen dies after being shot at south Phoenix park earlier this month, police say

PHOENIX — A 17-year-old boy succumbed to injuries from a shooting at Cesar Chavez Park in south Phoenix, according to police reports. The shooting occurred on April 1 around 8 p.m., prompting an urgent police response to the scene located at 35th Avenue and Baseline Road in Laveen.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Daron Jackson in the parking lot with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was swiftly transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his death on April 12.

During the investigation, authorities learned of another victim—a woman who arrived at a nearby emergency room with a gunshot wound. She stated she was present at the park when the shooting happened. Fortunately, she received treatment and has since been released.

Police have yet to disclose details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting or any potential suspects involved. Investigators are urging anyone with relevant information to contact Silent Witness at 480(WITNESS) or 480(TESTIGO) to provide an anonymous tip.
