Tragic Incident: 5-Year-Old Killed by School Bus in Texas, Confirmed by DPS

A tragic incident occurred in Granbury, Texas, on Monday, claiming the life of a five-year-old student from the Emma Roberson Early Learning Academy. Officials confirmed the child was struck and fatally injured by a Granbury Independent School District (ISD) bus.
The accident took place at approximately 6:04 a.m. while the bus was in motion along Pecos River Drive. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the bus had stopped to pick up students near Brazos River Drive. As the bus began to leave, the child ran up to the driver’s side and into the bus’s path, resulting in the unfortunate collision.
The boy was immediately transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. At the time of the incident, eight other students and the 66-year-old bus driver were on board. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported among the passengers or the driver.
In the wake of this tragedy, the Granbury ISD expressed its sorrow, stating, “We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our students.” The district urged the community to keep the family in their thoughts during this difficult period.
School officials have reached out to the families of the children present on the bus to offer support. Additionally, counselors and chaplains will be available to assist students in processing their grief in the coming weeks. The district is currently cooperating with the Texas DPS as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We all have the expectation that students will be safe on our buses and in our district,” stated a Granbury ISD representative. They emphasized that further information will be shared once the investigation is complete.
