Arizona couple killed in fiery pile-up on I-10

Four people lost their lives in a devastating multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Tonopah, Arizona, on Saturday afternoon. Among the deceased are Melinda Kobold from Peoria and her boyfriend, Dustin Cluff from Prescott Valley.

The tragic news was confirmed by family members. Joseph Kobold, Melinda’s brother, expressed the shock of receiving such devastating news from Arizona state troopers at his home. “You see tragic events every day… but you never think that would be you,” he said, struggling to process the loss.

According to reports, Melinda and Dustin were returning from Glamis, California, where they had narrowly escaped an off-roading accident earlier that day. “A total freak thing, not preventable,” Joseph recounted, noting they had managed to flip their vehicle back over and were unharmed before continuing their journey.

The couple was traveling in an RV when they became part of the chain reaction crash involving 12 vehicles, located just 14 miles west of Tonopah. The RV subsequently caught fire, adding to the severity of the incident. Investigators are currently looking into the possibility that low visibility due to high winds and blowing dust may have contributed to the accidents.

Joseph characterized Melinda as a devoted mother to her two sons, describing her nurturing spirit and commitment to family. “We miss the hell out of her and may they both rest in peace,” he said, mourning the absence of his sister’s caring nature.

In light of this tragedy, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist the Kobold family and support Melinda’s children during this difficult period.
