A tragic discovery was made at Grand Canyon National Park as the body of a missing 20-year-old was located. Leticia A. Castillo, a New Mexico resident, was found deceased roughly 150 feet below the Twin Overlooks rim along Desert View Drive. She had been reported missing since August 3.

The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of Castillo’s death. Castillo’s death marks the third fatality at the Grand Canyon in the past week. On August 1, a BASE jumper lost their life, and a 20-year-old man from North Carolina died on July 31.

The missing person was found about 150 feet below the rim.

PHOENIX — A 20-year-old was recently found dead at Grand Canyon National Park after a multi-day search.

Park rangers located the body of Leticia A. Castillo, a resident of New Mexico, about 150 feet below the rim in the Twin Overlooks along Desert View Drive. 

Castillo had entered the Grand Canyon on Aug. 3. The National Park Service and Coconino County Medical Examiner is investigating how Castillo died.

Castillo is the third fatality reported at the Grand Canyon within the last week. A BASE jumper died at the park on Aug. 1 and a 20-year-old North Carolina man died on July 31.
