Crash on US 60 near Apache Junction leaves 19-year-old dead

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — US 60 has reopened in both directions following a tragic accident that took place Thursday night. The Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed the road was cleared after the incident near Ironwood Drive.

Initial reports indicate that a vehicle traveling eastbound was rear-ended, causing it to roll into the westbound lanes. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Luis Daniel Pacheco, was ejected from the car and succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, and impairment has not been ruled out as a contributing factor. The eastbound lanes reopened around 10 p.m. Thursday, while the westbound lanes followed suit the next morning.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers present on the roads. The community is urged to exercise caution and be mindful of driving conditions, especially during nighttime hours.
