Tragic Collision Claims Life of 81-Year-Old in East Valley

MESA, Ariz. — An 81-year-old man tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Friday morning. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. near 76th Street and McDowell Road, just east of the Loop 202 freeway.

The pedestrian, identified as Richard Chamblin, was reportedly not in a crosswalk when he attempted to cross North Ridgecrest, situated south of North Mountain Ridge. Police indicated that Chamblin stepped into the road from a median, leading to the accident.

Authorities confirmed that the driver did not exhibit signs of impairment after the crash. The Mesa Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
