Driver arrested in Avondale crash that left two dead


The crash occurred early Sunday morning near Dysart and Thomas roads, police say.

AVONDALE, Ariz. — Two individuals lost their lives and two others were injured in a tragic accident in Avondale, according to the city’s police department. The collision happened at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, involving two vehicles at the intersection of Dysart and Thomas roads.

Police reported that one car, traveling north, disregarded a red light and collided with another vehicle that was making a left turn. This reckless action led to severe consequences. One of the passengers in the first car succumbed to injuries at the scene, while another passenger died at the hospital. Both the driver and a third passenger from the first car, as well as the driver and a passenger in the second vehicle, reported minor injuries and were hospitalized.

Investigators believe impairment played a significant role in the crash. Authorities are not releasing the names of those involved pending identification. Kamryn Slivers, the northbound driver who ran the red light, faces charges of DUI, manslaughter, and aggravated assault.

Further, the driver who turned onto W. Thomas Rd. was also found to be impaired. Charges for Driving Under the Influence will be pursued against this driver as well. No additional details have been provided at this time.
