Pedestrian dies days after being hit in north Phoenix

PHOENIX — A tragic incident in north Phoenix has led to the death of a 79-year-old man. Manuel Figueroa Castillo was hit by a vehicle on March 3, around 7:45 p.m., at the intersection of 43rd Avenue and Bell Road, according to Phoenix police.

The collision left Castillo critically injured, and he was swiftly transported to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, despite the medical team’s efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on March 5.

Police reported that the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, and authorities do not suspect impairment was a contributing factor in the incident. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist with Castillo’s funeral expenses. The campaign reflects the family’s deep sorrow, stating that he passed away surrounded by loved ones.

The community response includes efforts to support the family during this difficult time, as they navigate both emotional and financial challenges.
