Tragedy Strikes: Family Vanishes After Boat Capsizes Near Alaskan Coast, Confirms Close Friend

On Saturday, Aug. 3, the Coast Guard received an emergency call about a 28-foot vessel carrying eight people that capsized off the Alaskan coast around 7 p.m.
TROY, Texas — A family from Troy, Texas, is presumed lost at sea after their boat capsized near Homer, Alaska, over the weekend. This information comes from a family friend, Stetson Chase.
Mary Maynard, her husband David, and their two sons were among the missing individuals. Chase shared this tragic news on Facebook, stating that despite intensive search efforts by the U.S. Coast Guard, the family has not been found.
According to Anchorage Daily News, the call to the Coast Guard indicated that a vessel carrying eight individuals had capsized. Four occupants were rescued by a nearby good Samaritan and are expected to recover.
The Coast Guard continued its search for the remaining four individuals, confirmed to be two adults and two minors. However, the search was suspended Sunday after extensive efforts.
Chase communicated with 6 News, explaining that it is assumed the boat the Maynard family was on sank entirely.
“This is tragic,” Chase posted on Facebook. “They were a wonderful, caring, and loving family that deserves to be brought home. As her mother stated, prayers are all we have.”
Troy ISD Superintendent Neil Jeter confirmed that the two missing children attended local schools. Counselors are available to support students and parents in need during this distressing time.
