Town Launches Urgent Inspection of Homes for Hazardous Lead Pipe Water Lines

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has mandated that all public water systems in the U.S. identify the materials of their water service lines, from the mains to individual buildings, to assess the presence of lead lines. In line with this directive, the Town of Cave Creek has issued notifications to utility users potentially affected by lead pipes. Those who did not receive a notification can rest assured that their service lines are confirmed to be composed of non-lead materials.
To comply with the EPA’s requirements, the Town plans to conduct inspections across the water system. These evaluations will take place outdoors, focusing on visual assessments near water meters. Residents may be contacted in the future to assist with further inspections of the material where the water enters their home.
For residents interested in identifying their own water line materials, the EPA has created an informative guide available online.
The agency has also recently upgraded drinking water standards to enhance protection against lead contamination, particularly benefiting children and communities. The revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule (LCRR) aim to restrict the levels of lead and copper in drinking water. This will involve improvements at water treatment facilities, the replacement of lead or galvanized service lines, and public education initiatives regarding lead exposure risks.
If you have specific inquiries regarding your water service line or its quality, the Town of Cave Creek Utilities Department is available for assistance. Residents can reach out at 480-488-6620 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, or by emailing utilities@cavecreek.org.
