Tom Cruise to perform stunt at Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony

An A-list celebrity appears to be playing a big role in the Closing Ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

PARIS, France — Tom Cruise has been spotted in the stands catching some of the Olympic competition so far in Paris. But according to reports, the actor will be playing a starring role in the Closing Ceremony.

Cruise will reportedly be performing stunts to close out the 2024 Summer Games and help pass the Olympic flag to 2028 host Los Angeles.

TMZ, which was first to report on the stunt, said the plan includes Cruise rappelling down from the top of the Stade de France.

The live broadcast will reportedly then cut to prerecorded footage of Cruise flying from France to California, before skydiving down to the Hollywood sign.

This Hollywood sign portion of the stunt was filmed in March, when Cruise was seen hanging from the iconic Los Angeles landmark. No one at the time seemed to know what he was filming.

The Closing Ceremony has been named “Records,” by Thomas Jolly, artistic director of the Paris 2024 Games ceremonies.

“Part of the show will take place in the air, while the giant sets, costumes and spectacular lighting effects will take spectators on a journey through time, both past and future,” according to the Olympics website.

Jolly faced a storm of outrage after the Opening Ceremony over a contentious scene some thought mimicked “The Last Supper.”

The Closing Ceremony for the Paris Olympics is Sunday, Aug. 11. It’s being held at the Stade de France, the country’s national stadium and where the track and field competition is taking place. Live coverage begins at 2 p.m. Eastern.
