TikTok Unveils Unexpected Adventure Spots in Maricopa

TikTok tells us ‘things to do in Maricopa,’ and they’re not what you’d expect

Residents of Maricopa frequently voice their dissatisfaction, often targeting traffic issues or the perceived lack of activities. A notable podcast, which boasts 250,000 listeners, recently claimed that there’s little to do in the city other than “die.”

However, TikToker Heather Grenanco, a 34-year-old dental hygienist and balloon artist who moved to Anderson Farms earlier this year, vehemently disagrees. Using her TikTok account, she has embarked on a mission to showcase the quirky side of her new home.

Under her @heather_niichole persona, Grenanco launched a series titled “Things to do in Maricopa” last month, quickly amassing around 4,000 views per post. Her content takes a unique twist, highlighting unconventional destinations that defy typical tourist expectations.

In one video, instead of spotlighting well-known spots like Copper Sky or Harrah’s casino, she shared her visit to a local restaurant bathroom and a dollar store. Her reviews oscillate between serious and sarcastic, aiming to both entertain and inform.

During an interview, Grenanco explained, “These were just funny videos. We moved here in January, and I’m just trying to make the best of it.” Her TikToks reflect this outlook, blending humor with genuine observations.

For instance, she posted about her experience at The New HQ on June 18. Despite slow service, she noted that her breakfast was substantial and delicious. However, she humorously pointed out the peculiar bathroom sign regarding toilet paper disposal, hinting at ongoing plumbing issues.

The Pinal County Health Department later confirmed her observations, issuing a “needs improvement” rating due to parking lot sewage concerns.

In another video, posted on July 2, Grenanco documented her trip to the Dollar General store on Papago Road, capturing her adventures in “extreme couponing.” Along the way, she described the scenic drive past farms and fields.

Her lighthearted narrative continued as she humorously referred to a dirty shopping basket and detailed her savings from couponing efforts, despite challenges posed by poor Wi-Fi and the store’s air conditioning.

While viewers speculated about potential future installments, Grenanco hinted at a possible third episode visiting the Ace Hardware store in the Cobblestone Fiesta plaza. Her ongoing series promises to uncover more offbeat facets of Maricopa life, blending humor with a genuine exploration of the city’s peculiar charm.
