Developing: Thief reportedly tased, arrested near elementary school

A man was tased near Maricopa Elementary School yesterday while students were in class. The incident occurred outside the school, drawing attention from both teachers and local residents.

Amara Wilson, a Desert Passage resident, reported that her sister, a teacher at the school, witnessed the event. “The other teachers saw a man get tased at recess,” Wilson stated, shedding light on the situation during a tense moment.

According to Maricopa Police Department spokesperson Monica Williams, the tasing was linked to a theft at the Circle K convenience store located approximately 700 yards from the school. “There was a theft at the Circle K over by Copper Sky, and they encountered the guy over by the elementary school,” Williams explained, clarifying the connection between the two locations.

While details remain sparse, Williams confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody near the school. “I don’t know everything that played out, but he was taken into custody at the elementary school,” she added. She reassured the public that the situation was quickly contained, emphasizing that the incident was a “minor” occurrence and did not take place on school grounds. “We mitigated it very quickly. It wasn’t on the school campus,” Williams noted.
